Dive Lists
When a diver is going to take part in a competition, he/she must submit a “dive list” at least 24 hours prior to the commencement of the competition. This is a written statement of all the details of all the dives and the order in which the diver intends to perform them during the competition. It is important to ensure that the list of dives complies with the competition requirement and that it is signed.
Different competitions may require varying numbers of dives to be performed by each diver. The total number of dives required is broken down into 2 parts in most of these competitions. In the first part the total DD allowed is limited and the diver must perform a dive from each of the different dive groups. The second part comprises dives with no limit on the DD and again the diver must perform each dive from a different dive group. Some competitions are run as just one part or the other part i.e. limited DD dives only or unlimited DD dives only.

What does 5 @ 9.5 DD + 3 mean?
- The description 5 @ 9.5 DD + 3 is indicating the number of dives required and the DD limit (5 dives at a combined DD limit of 9.5, plus 3 extra dives at no DD limit)
- The dives required for a six-dive competition may be listed as follows - 1 metre event: 3 @ 5.4 DD + 3 = 3 dives at 5.4 DD limit + 3 dives without a DD limit
- The first part of this competition requires three dives. These three dives must be from three different groups out of the five dive groups mentioned earlier, and the total DD must not exceed 5.4
- The second part of this competition requires a further three dives also from three different groups out of the five dive groups but there is no limit on the DD
- The dive groups chosen for the second part of the competition may be the same or different to the dive groups used in the first part. However, NO DIVE CAN BE REPEATED. All six dives must be different
- [Insert example here]
- For an eight dive competition listed as 5 @ 9.5 DD + 3, you would need one dive from each of the different dive groups with a total limit of 9.5 DD, plus three dives with no limit on DD, each from a different dive group. All eight dives must be different (have a different dive number).
