Dive Numbers
Dive numbers are a simple code to indicate the type of dive to be performed. They tell you the group the dive is from, the number of rotations and the number of twists performed.
In the first four basic dive groups (forward, backward, reverse and inward), the first digit represents the dive group:
Dive 101 = forward dive
In the first four basic dive groups (forward, backward, reverse and inward), the first digit represents the dive group:
- 1 represents forward
- 2 represents backward
- 3 represents reverse
- 4 represents inward
- 1 = half a somersault
- 2 = a full somersault
- 3 = 1.5 somersaults etc
Dive 101 = forward dive
- 101 the first digit = forward, the final digit = 1 half rotation (head first entry)
- 202 the first digit identifies backward group the last digit = 2 half rotations i.e. a full somersault (feet first entry)
- 301 the first digit identifies the reverse group. The last digit denotes 1 half rotation (head first entry)
- 403 the first digit identifies the inward group. The last digit denotes 3 half rotations i.e. 1.5 somersaults (head first entry)
- When it comes to the twisting dives, things are a little different. For twisting dies there are four digits in the dive number
- The first digit still represents the dive group for twisting dives this is 5
- The second digit is the direction the dive is performed. For example a 2 would show a dive is performed in a backward direction, whereas a 4 signifies an inward dive direction
- The third digit now represents the number of half somersault rotations (as above)
- The fourth digit symbolises the amount of half twists. For example a 1 for the final digit shows a dive with a half twist, whereas a 2 represents a full twist and a 3 equals 1.5 twists etc
- 5211 the first digit 5 identifies the twisting group. The next digit 2 which type of dive it is (2= backwards). The third digit 1 tells how many rotations. The last digit 1 how many half twists
