Levels Programme
Wellington Diving offers a Levels Programme to help athletes, coaches and parents monitor progress and skill acquisition throughout a diver’s career.
The Levels Programme has 11 levels (Levels 1-10 + Elite) and each level offers three award standards – Bronze, Silver and Gold. Awards are gained by acquiring points and athlete’s progress through the levels by achieving the standard required.
Athletes will have the opportunity to check their Levels Programme progress at Wellington Diving Series (WDS) events throughout the year.
How the Levels Programme works
The Levels Programme has 11 levels (Levels 1-10 + Elite) and each level offers three award standards – Bronze, Silver and Gold. Awards are gained by acquiring points and athlete’s progress through the levels by achieving the standard required.
Athletes will have the opportunity to check their Levels Programme progress at Wellington Diving Series (WDS) events throughout the year.
How the Levels Programme works
- Each level has 10 skills which need to be completed.
- Each individual skill must be performed to the minimum standard to acquire the award when tested.
- Each level has three different award standards:
∙ Bronze: 150-179 points
∙ Silver: 180-209 points
∙ Gold: 210+ points - Athletes can sit a level with a minimum of five skills to:
∙ check progress on a new level
∙ check the standard of new skills on a new level
∙ ensure they have a goal for each WDS event
Note: points gained will not carry into the final score - Athletes can re-sit a level at the following WDS event to try and better their previous score only if they passed with silver or below.
- Skills at higher levels may be developed earlier as appropriate for an individual diver, eg. twisting may be developed earlier than Level 7.
- To achieve higher levels athletes must commit to a higher number of training sessions, and a higher level of commitment.
- Levels are relevant to ability not age. A skill chain is used from Level 1 through to elite.
- Athletes have the opportunity to test their skills and achieve their goals at WDS events held throughout the year.
- Athletes are required to print and sign two copies of the relevant dive sheet. Dive sheets will have the skills listed on them. Dive sheets will be available on the Wellington Diving website. A waterproof copy of all levels will be available on poolside for divers to verify their dives at WDS events.
- Athletes pay $10 to compete at each WDS event. Badges will be available at each event for those who successfully complete a level. Badges cost $5 per level.
