Scores and Points
How do scores turn into points?
The judges’ scores and the DD of a dive are combined to give the total points for a dive, though the calculation depends on the numbers of judges. The basis of the equation is that an average of the judges’ scores is multiplied by the DD of the dive. The different systems equations follow.
7 Judge System – Dive No. 301A, 3m, DD 2.0

7 Judge System – Dive No. 301A, 3m, DD 2.0
- Judge’s scores - J1. 5 J2. 5.5 J3. 6 J4. 6.5 J5. 5 J6. 5 J7. 6
- The highest and lowest scores are ignored to remove bias and eccentricity from the average -
J1. 5 J2. 5.5 J3. 6 J4. 0 J5. 5 J6. 0 J7. 6 - The remaining scores are added - 5 + 5.5 + 6 + 5 + 6 = 27.5
- And that total multiplied by the DD - 27.5 x 2.0 = 55
- This total is then moderated to an equivalent 5 judge score by a multiplier of 3/5 (or 0.6) - 55 x 0.6 = 33
- The points awarded for this dive in this case is 33.00 points
- Judge’s scores - J1. 5 J2. 5.5 J3. 6 J4. 5 J5. 6
- The highest and lowest scores are ignored to remove bias and eccentricity from the average -
- J1. 5 J2. 5.5 J3. 6 J4. 0 J5. 0
- The remaining scores are added - 5 + 5.5 + 6 = 16.5
- And that total multiplied by the DD - 16.5 x 2.0 = 33
- The points awarded for this dive in this case is 33.00 points
- Judges’ scores – J1. 6 J2. 4.5 J3. 6 J4. 5 J5. 6
- All three scores are added - 6 + 4.5 + 6 = 16.5
- And that total multiplied by the DD - 16.5 x 2.0 = 33
- The points awarded for this dive in this case is 33.00 points
