Types of Dives
There are six different groups of platform and springboard dives.
The first four types involve rotating in different directions from different kinds of starting positions, the fifth includes any dive with a twist, and the sixth type is for platform diving only and starts with a handstand. Each group has a relevant identifying number:

Group 1. Forward dives
- The diver faces the water and rotates in a forward motion, towards the water
- The diver’s back is towards the water and rotation is in a backwards motion, away from the board
- The diver faces the water and rotates in a backwards motion, towards the board
- The diver’s back is towards the water and rotation is in a forward motion
- The diver commences in any of the above motions but includes at least half a twist of the body. Because of the many possible combinations, this group includes more dives than any other.
- The diver commences dive from an inverted handstand position balanced on their hands on the board. (Platform only)
